Marti Gardner, an inspiring artist, that hails from Seattle, Washington, is spending a month in Dover constructing a stone mosaic piece for the logo wall in our reception area.  Her talent and passion bring much positive enery to this project.  Mari Gardner is a community-based artist, sculptor, photographer and mosaic artist. She believes that art has the power to transform thinking, promote positive change and is a tool for social justice. For the past decade Mari has worked passionately alongside communities facilitating and creating public art, installation art, films, and audio histories. She has worked internationally with youth in the favelas (slums) of Brazil and in Swaziland villages with members of HIV positive support groups, as well as with a diverse cross section of people in underrepresented communities throughout the United States.

As a fine artist, Gardner’s sculptures, photographs and installations are often reflections of her experiences while working with communities. She has exhibited nationwide as well as in Swaziland and Brazil. Her films have been shown in film festivals in 5 countries and her sculptures and photographs have been published in numerous sources, including CameraArts and The Book of Alternative Photographic Processes. Her commissioned artwork includes architectural mosaics for the Baltimore Hilton Convention Center Hotel in Maryland, and The Glazer Children’s Museum in Tampa, Florida.

Mari received her MFA from the Rinehart School of Sculpture at the Maryland Institute College of Art (2004) and her BFA from the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley College. (1999).
